Introducing the Accelerated Mobile Pages Project, for a Faster, Open Mobile Web:
Smart devices have revolutionized the way people access the web, but many sites are not geared towards phone and tablet users. This can be disastrous for publishers. If their site is slow loading, or provides a poor user experience, visitors will click away and the publisher will lose the opportunity to generate sales, subscriptions, or advertising commissions.
Google has favored mobile responsive websites for some time. Taking things a little further, they have collaborated with publishers and technology companies from all over the world and developed a new open source initiative they are calling Accelerated Mobile Pages. They announced the news on Wednesday via their official blog.
A Better Mobile Web with Accelerated Mobile Pages
According to Google, the initiative relies on a new open framework called AMP HTML. It utilizes existing web technologies, but does so in a manner that allows websites to create light-weight pages that can provide smart ads and rich content, such as graphics and video animations, and still load instantly across all devices.
The Big G plans to integrate AMP HTML pages into their various products, including Google News, in the near future. They will not be acting alone. Twitter, LinkedIn, Pinterest, and WordPress are just a few of the publishers and technology companies that are keen to make the changes that are necessary to provide their users with an improved mobile web experience.
This is indeed exciting news because the new AMP HTML pages should help the World Wide Web evolve to the next level and create an online environment that is better for website publishers, Web Users, and advertisers alike.
