List of Video Search Engines and Video Search Websites (Updated)
Unless they have been living in a virtual limbo land, most people are likely aware that YouTube and Google boast the best video search engines, but they are not the only options available. In an article published last week, on the video marketing website ReelSEO, YouTube expert Andy Smith provides his insights on some of the other options available. ReelSEO compiled a similar list in 2007, but a lot has changed since then although the original list contained 27 video search engines, the new and updated version contains only 9.
The Top 9 Video Search Engines
ReelSEO’s list contains a few unlikely entries, but let’s not forget this is their gig. They know what they are talking about. The fact that many readers may not be aware of some of the options listed below only goes to show how successfully YouTube and Google have cornered the market on video searches.
Some Strengths and Weaknesses
YouTube’s customizable search engine gives it a distinct edge over its competitors, so it remains the one to beat. Google comes a close second but, although the top results are invariably YouTube videos, the SERPS (Search Engine Results Pages) are not always the same. That being the case, it could be advantageous to use both options when searching for difficult-to-find media.
As usual Yahoo is snapping at Googles Heels with Yahoo Screen, and registering with the site unlocks some useful custom search options. The SERPS only contains videos from the site, but Yahoo no longer allows user-generated content; so the viewing experience is consistent from one video to the next.
Bing searches the whole net and then generates SERPS that provide previews on hover, and all the other Video Search engines in ReelSEO’s list have various merit of their own. So, if Video Search is a tool you use often, you may want to head on over to ReelSEO and check out the full article.
