As a communications professional, I was seeking training that would move me quickly forward in the social media arena to increase my skills. Research on LinkedIn revealed that one of the fastest most thorough ways to meet that end is the Social Media Certification course taught by Deltina Hay.
It was an excellent overview of the social media landscape that also gives participants the nuts and bolts of how to use the tools. Deltina shares her extensive knowledge of the latest trends, marketing concepts and ways to integrate the complex and ever-changing social media venues.
Building an integrated presence was technically challenging for me. Deltina stressed that the point was not to become technically proficient and memorize all the myriad details of how to configure each tool, but to give us a conceptual overview and hands on experience.
The course teaches participants the ways and means to integrate social media into an communications strategy using the right tools for the right messages such as Facebook, Twitter, HootSuite.

I was a student of Deltina Hay in a Certificate Program focused on Social Media. It was a great class as it was a hybrid of reality-based training in a wide variety of Social Media tools and scholarly readings. Additionally, she prompted the participants to discuss and share our thoughts and positions on suggested topics in a digital, group forum.
Several things stand out:
- Her successful presentation style that kept the students engaged in the technical material
- Her availability to assist in actually implementing and properly configuring Social Media tools; and
- Her helping guide our individual understanding of what it means to successfully prepare, implement, and measure Social Media tools, digital conversations and “impression management.”
As a technology instructor myself, I can say without reservation that Deltina Hay’s instruction style, educational effectiveness and deep content expertise are both rare and enjoyable. I look forward to her next class as well following her in her new Social Media venture.
