Customization and Control – New Tools for Video Publishers:
Facebook Media is busy developing new tools to help video publishers improve their businesses on Facebook. The new Videos Tab in Page Insights was announced in June and, in an article published on Tuesday, Facebook Media Product Manager, Anaid Gomez-Ortigoza voiced her team’s excitement over the new Video Library and the latest improvements to the video upload system.
New Video Library Makes for Easier Asset Management
The new Facebook Video Library provides platform users with a new place to update and organize all their videos. Edits can be applied to individual videos or made in bulk. Page owners are also given greater control over the way their videos are distributed, and video search and filter options make it easier to find specific uploads.
New Tools Improve the Video Upload Experience
Gomez-Ortigoza also states the video upload process has been redesigned to complement the new features that have been added to the Facebook Video API.
The new “Secret Video” option gives page owners the option to prevent their videos from being found via the site’s search option, while still allowing easy access to anyone who has been given the URL.
Other enhancements include the ability to:
- Add custom thumbnails
- Label videos by interest category
- Restrict the video audience by age and gender
- Prohibit or allow video embeds on third-party sites
It will also be possible to publish videos straight to a page’s “videos tab,” without updating the News Feed or Timeline, and apply expiration dates to videos, while allowing them to retain their insights after removal.
An Ongoing Process
The Facebook Media team are still hard at it, and all of the new features are expected to become available globally during the coming weeks. But don’t just take my word for it. See for yourself by reading the announcement in its entirety over at Facebook Media.
